Back to school: Snack Options

Hey Everyone!

While I've been doing a ton of reading for classes just in 3 days back at Uni, I've figured out that snacking is constantly in my mind more than eating actual full meals. I am not skipping on them, it's just that I have more pick-me-ups through the day.

What I'll do is eat breakfast early in the morning, keep with my routine (reading, writing, blogging, etc) and I'll get a little anxious, or just plain bored that I have to keep me busy with something else while doing it all, I'll grab 20 almonds, and eat them slowly so that I don't run out of them too fast, and drink some water or tea or coffee. Coffee is what the majority of university students indulge in most of the time. One can never have too many cups of it.

After Lunch, sometimes I have class and I am busy paying attention to the professors and the subject that all I can manage, in a break, is grab an apple, or any other fruit that can be eaten with out making a mess out of it. And that is pretty much it, oh and the coffee to keep me awake.

So snacking is your best friend students! keep that in mind.

Another idea is to get some proteins going, take a piece of grilled chicken breast and eat it in between meals. The protein will give you more energy to keep going.

Also, having a snack in between foods will make you less hungry for the actual meal making you eat a little less than you would normally eat. This is a great tip for those who want to stay fitter and leaner and maintain a good weight range.

I hope you guys liked this post from my little snacking life and that it is helpful in your everyday activities.

Cravings...

Hey Everyone!

I have been craving lately so much sweet! I just don't know what is going on. And certainly, I've indulged too much on it. Yesterday I hit rock bottom with it. And how did I noticed that? Well, I ate a full bag of gummy bears, then had a chocolate and then some jelly. I have been the worst lately.

I started feeling tired and, just not my normal self. I went through various mood swings and just couldn't manage it!

So from today onwards, I have made myself a promise. To cut out sweets. All sort of candy. The bad stuff. I am going for using sweeteners only if necessary, ie: if I drink a coffee. I will not say that I wont eat once every 2 weeks those desserts, just try to make it a healthier option for me to cut it out on week days.

Saying this, I leave my statement here, the beginning of my no sweet regime. I hope I can pull this off and not succumb to the temptations. I have a really big sweet tooth. Oh dear, Will power.

Fitness Kick!

Hey Everyone!

Today I was thinking on how I was being so lazy and doing no exercise at all. On the morning I decided to do something about it and do it NOW. So I have made myself of a little at home routine which is super easy and effective for me.

Normally I would have done an hour long of my stationary bicycle and them do some crunches and legs and many more localized exercises. This was like 3 or 4 years ago while I was still at high-school. I have now figured out that since I am in college I left over this routine because of lack of time and it was just not in my priority list.

stationary bicycle

Today I planned this quick, not really time consuming "fitness space" for me to do. It consists of 20 mins on my bicycle separated in 2 times a day. That makes 10 mins in the AM and 10 mins in the PM. I know it seems such a small time and that it will not do a thing for me, but as you know to go from nothing to go to something is really going to help kick start your metabolism again after a long period of time of doing nothing at all.

Here is how it will work for me. I will try to increase the time after a couple of weeks doing this first part of 10-10, 5 more mins in each daily session. That will leave me with 30 mins of cardio daily which is nice and I will not feel it that much. It is just not that time consuming for my busy schedule and I will still have my fitness regime with my new (rediscovered) healthy eating habits.

That is all for this post, I just wanted to let you guys know my little new routine and hope it helps you get into the fitness kick I had today specially if you are a busy person and are just lacking movement in your life!

I hope you are having a great weekend! (just one more day to Easter!Who's excited?)

Happy Monday! Yummy Foods, pretty flowers and cute puppies

Hey everyone!

I hope your Day has been amazing and just really jump-started your week with a lot of energy and nice thoughts. Yesterday I had to study for my first Finance class test and I think I did pretty good on it. I have a 10 min. bridge right now before I head on to class.

Lets get this post started. (well I think I already did, but lets get to the important part)

Today I ate a really good and home-made spring spaghetti with Parmesan  cheese and for dessert I had a cheese cake sort-of cake with orange jelly on top. It was so good and healthy which is the best part. Well the dessert might have been the unhealthy part of it, but it's ok to have a small piece and not deprive yourself.

Earlier in the morning, I was walking to class and found some pretty flowers on the side of the street and loved them, unfortunately I didn't had my camera with me but I will insert a picture sometime this week.

And as my day is coming to an end, sleepy puppies are the best thing to smile at and make you feel a lot less stressed.

Aren't they so so cute? little cupcakes of love <3 (Queenie & Cinderella)

I hope you have a great week!

I hope you guys have a great week and enjoy the opportunities that life present to you! <3

Things you don't know about me

Hey everyone!!

I just wanted to stop by and tell you 3 facts about me that are little known by anyone who knows me, just by my family and very very close friends (let just say they are few that one hand is just enough for me to count them) so lets get started!

1) I love to eat, lets just say I love food in general

2) I am sort of an OCD when it comes to how i like my pillows to be arranged in my bed when i get in it to sleep, if they are not in the right order...I will not sleep good till I switch them back to how I like them.

3) I am a shower singer, yes to heard right...I sing while in the shower and not just normal, but VERY LOUD and very badly... (just taking all the frustrations out at the moment)

I hope you liked this little post, I thought it would be fun to let you guys know some of my more inside personality. So go ahead and leave me a comment letting me know which are your weird habits (everyone has them) <3

Healthy Spotlight: Blueberries

Hey there my loves!

Recently I've found that blueberries are a great fruit to munch on and as a great complement for cereal and oats. I know many of you might already like this combo, but i actually never got interested in it specially because the looks of it was not nice for me at all.

Later I decided to try it and see why many people liked it. And I got hooked. But it is just not the taste that fascinates me, it's also the amount of health benefits it provides.

Here are 3 main characteristics of blueberries and why you should incorporate them in your diet.

1.- They are great anti-oxidants. They help slow down the process of ageing of your body and provide you with extra energy.

2.- They help to keep in pin point your memory making it sharper and better.

3.- They contain a great amount of vitamins and minerals which increase the nutritional value of any of the food you pair them with.

Remember, good food pairing is they key point to make your body happy and your energy at a good level.

Happy New Year! 2012

So it's about to be 2012 here where I am at! I can't wait now! SO EXCITED

I hope the year 2011 was awesome for you and that you achieved your goals and kept your last year's resolutions and build new dreams from the ones you achieved.

I hope that 2012 is much better than the last and that you can continue enjoying live at the fullest. Say "I love you" more to the people you love and make sure that it shows, it's more than just looking and them and taking it  for granted because they might just not know how much they mean to you.

Build new friendships and make the ones you already have stronger than ever. Family is the most important thing here, make them your priority because you might not know how much time left with them you are going to have, cherish each and every small second with them and spread the love around you, fight less and make people know they are beautiful inside and that is a lot more important than just looks.

And feel pretty, feel beautiful and compliment it by how you look from the outside.

Have a very happy new year with the ones you love and pray for those who are not physically here with you, because they are going to be definitely with you through your life as your guardian angels.

Remember, make love, not war. Johnn Lennon is a Legend for that, and he was so right.

Blessings, love and Happiness,

So December is here...

Hey Everyone!

I can't belief the year is almost over! It's hollyday season and final exams for me begin this Saturday!  I've been crazy busy this past month and i am SO eager to stop running like a headless chicken all over the place :) I want to focus on the hollydays and begin decorating my house...yes I know, i still haven't done it and that makes me feel sad. I love the Christmas spirit, it makes me feel much much more happy and alive.

As a tradition, in my family we tend to focus on the dinner table for Christmas and we prepare some jummy recipes and just thinking about them make my mouth water. I really wish i had healthier versions of them but, it's just that time of year in which you can indulge a bit with all the flavour and the jumminess of the season.

As soon as I finish my final exams, I am TOTALLY going back at writing regular posts in here, i feel i have a lot of things to say and so not enough time.

Hope you are enjoying the spirit of this season and making the best out of every moment!

talk to you all, so very soon <3

Healthy Snacks: Avocado Humus

Hey Guys!

So I was browsing through the internet in the search of new and healthy snack options and got across this recipe, and as I am a huge lover of avocados and of Humus I thought "OK, why not?" and decided that you might also like this new and innovative way to eat your humus.

Here is the recipe thanks to the food network

Picture of Avocado Hummus Recipe

Ingredients:

2 avocados
1/2 jalapeño pepper
7 ounce tub of humus
juice of 1 lemon
salt

Directions:

Make an avocado and jalapeño purée in a food processor, then stir with the humus and mix well. Add salt and the lemon juice and mix well once again.

If you can't find made humus near you, click here to get the recipe to make it yourself. (An easy and practical recipe I must say!)

A great veggie that you can eat this with is with celery sticks, they are crunchy and yummy. But you can also eat it with toasted pita bread.

So I hope you enjoy!

5 foods that get to your hips

Hey guys!

It's another day and another of my lists come up! who isn't worried about the food they eat and how are they going to affect their body? I think that this is my biggest scare as it is for the most of the girls out there. Can we eat chocolate? A cupcake? A McDonald's Burger with extra cheese and bacon? Where do they go in our body??

All these questions are just getting us more and more worried, right? I know, I AM worried!

So now, we are going to get in details and more details.

5) Fondue: As much as you may love your fondue (all that cheese and more cheese on top of MORE cheese) it's time to go cutting it out. Cheese is a killer one, specially the one used for fondue. It contains a lot of calories and fat and grease that will just serve as food for your hips and they might get fatter and larger. I think it is also best to eat it in moderation every once in a long (and by long i mean like 6 months apart) time so that it is not damaging your health.

4) French Fries: They are the best companions of the next food that is not healthy for you at all. Because they are fries, they need to be deeped in hot boiling (guess what?) yes OIL. It has toxins and saturated fats that are just not good for you.

3) Cheeseburger: Yes this is the companion of your fries i was talking about. Fried Burger plus cheddar cheese plus mayo and all those sauces and the French Fries are just a killer combo. All the fat is going directly to your hips ladies! we are like hamsters in that way, we accumulate, just not in our cheeks but in our hips (bummer).

2) Pasta: Yes, and I feel disappointed by this. You know I love me some pasta every now and then. But white wheat pasta is the worst. Lasagne  as an example has more or less 3000 calories because of the ingredients.

1) Burritos: Good lord, Mexicans are great for inventing all types of yummy food! but unfortunately this just makes your health go under the scope of calories and fat and to get greased arteries.

I hope you guys have enjoyed this post and that you are aware of what to avoid for the moment to have a healthier diet <3

University Busy Day: Lunch/Dinner Plan

Hey Guys!

Today I have a long day and it is probably the second longest day I have in the week. Yesterday (Wednesday) I had class from 3 pm till 11 pm and had 3 hours of free periods where I had to take something to eat. What I did was take a small portion of what has been left from lunch and ate it at 7 pm when I felt hungry. It was just a small portion just to keep my tummy feeling good and I bought some hot chocolate as my drink.

And today (Thursday) I have class from 2 pm till 9 pm and have 1 hour free in which i will take also a small portion as my dinner so in that way i have no need to eat when I get home at 10 pm, at that time I will only drink a cup of coffee.

I had to figure this type of things out because I couldn't last long enough without eating and feeling hungry. It is not healthy for your body to feel hungry because it will just start building up the calories because it enters into starvation mode in which it says that "ok i have to save food and calories because i might not receive any, any time soon".

So i hope you liked this fast little blog about what I am doing since yesterday when I have this long days of classes in which i have to spend a lot of time away from home and don't want to eat the food at the cafeteria which is just not healthy at all.

Sobe LifeWater Review

Hey guys!

I just started classes, as you may know from my previous post, and in one of my trips to university I purchased the Sobe LifeWater in fuji apple pear and I thought it was good. I had previously tried the one in yumberry pomegranate and I loved it, specially cause it was pink :) but that time I went for the fuji apple pear cause it was different and I'd never heard of it.

Here in Peru we only have two flavours, the black and blue berry is not available but I wish it was because I like the taste, at least, of blue berries. Even though there are more flavours available I think that those 3 are the most popular.

The LifeWaters contain a lot of beneficial components and ingredients to help your health be optimal. The majority of their flavours are 0-calories and they taste good (at least the ones I've tried). They have a wide range coming from antioxidants to energy boosters. The energy boosters are a combination of vitamins B's and they help you go through your day like if you've had a red bull, but in a healthier way.

They contain natural flavours and they sweeten their products with Stevia extract which come from a plant and doesn't contain a lot of chemicals like other sweeteners do.

I really think that this product is really good if you want to treat yourself with other than just water and make a full experience from it.

Back to College/University: Eating habits

Hey guys!

Now that university and college classes are about to start, people are concerned that while they study they are going to have less time to concentrate on their eating habits and that they might gain  weight while they do so. I am one of those people that are concerned and just don't know how to balance the hectic life of university or college.

After many months trying to loose weight and seemed to be doing well for a time, i can now say that something that seemed difficult (while eating at college cafeteria or elsewhere) has now become a lot easier. I normally pack my own lunch and find a place where i can eat it peacefully and enjoy it. I normally pack a good piece of meat (either chicken or turkey) and a potato and some steamed veggies. And to drink just a water bottle and sometimes, when it gets too cold, i buy a cup of coffee. It is always a good idea to pack a fruit also so you can snack on it at mid morning or if you have late classes to eat them at mid afternoon a couple hours later than lunch so that you don't feel hunger.

A small tip: If you feel hunger and don't have a fruit at your reach it the time and all you have is a water bottle, you just drink some of it and the feeling will end up like a relieve for your stomach.

I hope you guys find this post helpful!
