Sunday Funday: Halloween Candy

Happy Sunday everyone!

I think people, at this time of year, is going crazy about shopping for Halloween candy, and to be honest I am too! I love candy, that is one of my guiltiest of pleasures, if I can find some good candy well WELCOME! today I went grocery shopping with my parents, and I just went coo-coo in the candy isle.

There are tons and tons of nice candy this time of year, my favorites are Ambrujos (they belong to a Peruvian brand) and specially like the Hechizos branch. They are candy flavored coke, a red soda and inca kola. Typical flavors that only come out this time of year and I await eagerly to get my hands on them.

And while writing this, I am indulging in some of them (LOVE), what else can I say? I have my very own Kryptonite hahaha

I hope you guys are having a great weekend and enjoy it while it lasts <3

have a nice day!

Healthy Snacks: Pretzels

I know it's been a while since I've posted one of this healthy snack posts (sorry for the redundancy)! it been waaaay too long!

I love Pretzels, really really love them. I have been recently obsessed. I buy them every one or twice a week when I'm a little hungry but am really not feeling like grabbing some nuts or almonds or any fruit. It is my "cheat" snack. A better option to the junk food that you buy that are full of oils, fats, salt, over fried or else. Pretzels do have salt, but is the chunky one that just give a little of taste to the whole stick.

They are cooked in the oven. So they are "Fat Free" as in the "not fried" portion or category of the salty snacks as the potato chips you can get your hands on. And of course I had to have them while I am writing this post! (some of the inspiration came from that!)

I really recommend to try them, of course, don't indulge too much on them, they are still carbohydrates from white flour, but it's nice to switch it up a little bit every once in a while. Plus the chunky salt will cause the retention of liquids, it absorbs them and them make you puff up. So that is a little bit of a problem. Don't worry, it will happen if you eat them 24/7. But if you just switch it up, with all the other healthy foods, every once in a while (as mentioned above) you'll be fine.

I hope you like them as much as I do, plus how the pretzel was born is a very interesting story, and a yummy one too! you can check it out here if you want to.

cafeteria inspiration

I'm siting at the cafeteria at University, enjoying of an apple and an Arizona Blueberry White tea. It is good, and I feel entertained. People all around me have some pretty interesting food/snack options, I see a couple eating a big greasy burger, some have Dorito's all over their tables, some others are having some coffee (I would be one of them if I wasn't drinking tea this time) and almost everyone is having for drink....surprise, suprise...water (which is great)

This has inspired me to take into consideration that most of the food offered in a Cafeteria, is greasy, non healthy and saturated. I was trying to find some healthy options, and found that they have to offer fruit salads, some salads for lunch and that is it. what else could be healthy you may ask? Well that is a question I am asking myself too. Once a week I have this idea on making a series about what healthy meals to bring to school, university or college. and also some friendly snacks for short classes so that you keep your metabolism going!

Do you like the idea? let me know in the comments or via my contact information :)

have a great day!

My go-to snacking yogurt

It is one of those crazy days where I have to meet with study groups, do some readings, run some errands, go to class, write some essays and the list goes on. That means, my eating schedule becomes horrible, and I do not want to starve to death while I find a little time to eat my proper meals.

Yogurt comes in handy then. I like yogurt very much and when I found this awesome brand I just fell deeply in love for it's great taste and fruity-ness. It is from the brand Axelrod and it is a low fat one, it comes in different flavors, Black Cherry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Strawberry and more. But my absolute go to flavors are Black Cherry and Raspberry.

I tried the Blueberry one and was just not doing it for me. Luckily I remembered to take a picture of the container, because when I eat the rest I just go out of mind with taking any pictures of them to show you.

They are great products, if you haven't try them yet, go get them! they are pretty awesome :)

Back to school: Snack Options

Hey Everyone!

While I've been doing a ton of reading for classes just in 3 days back at Uni, I've figured out that snacking is constantly in my mind more than eating actual full meals. I am not skipping on them, it's just that I have more pick-me-ups through the day.

What I'll do is eat breakfast early in the morning, keep with my routine (reading, writing, blogging, etc) and I'll get a little anxious, or just plain bored that I have to keep me busy with something else while doing it all, I'll grab 20 almonds, and eat them slowly so that I don't run out of them too fast, and drink some water or tea or coffee. Coffee is what the majority of university students indulge in most of the time. One can never have too many cups of it.

After Lunch, sometimes I have class and I am busy paying attention to the professors and the subject that all I can manage, in a break, is grab an apple, or any other fruit that can be eaten with out making a mess out of it. And that is pretty much it, oh and the coffee to keep me awake.

So snacking is your best friend students! keep that in mind.

Another idea is to get some proteins going, take a piece of grilled chicken breast and eat it in between meals. The protein will give you more energy to keep going.

Also, having a snack in between foods will make you less hungry for the actual meal making you eat a little less than you would normally eat. This is a great tip for those who want to stay fitter and leaner and maintain a good weight range.

I hope you guys liked this post from my little snacking life and that it is helpful in your everyday activities.

Sunday fun day: Soccer and friends

Hey Everyone!

It's a nice day, today there's a soccer game where Peru and Colombia will face each other to see who gains points to qualify for the World Cup. Soccer is an important sport in Latin America, we have some awesome players, Ronaldinho anyone? Cristiano Ronaldo?, all Brazilian, that is why they have the best team winning 5 World Cups in the history (I think there was a 6th time, sorry for my lack of knowledge!)

This post is not about soccer (which you can see I know nothing about it) but it's about how you spend those social encounters with people that DO like sports, can be Rugby, American Football, Baseball anything in general. Guys are THE ones crazy about them and if you have a boyfriend or some male best friends, they will want to watch it all gathered in one place.

Girls, have no fear! They are the ones you love so you can also be a part of their plans. Your girls and yourself can plan a lovely reunion, delivering some tasks and making people in charge of the snacks and beers (if you are of legal age to enjoy a little booze with your activities) and voila, some of the girls may also enjoy watching sports so that is great! Special if you are fan of the teams who are playing.

Normally, girls will all gather around a table and have a little of drinks, chat and laugh. Boys will all be in front of the TV and munching on the snacks talking about boy stuff which I kind of do not understand but make an effort to.

Another thing that my friends and I like to do, specially in the warmer months, is go to the beach, to a friend's house and have a summery barbecue and  lot of chatting and screaming and just fun, good nice and friendly FUN.

That is my approach to having boys screaming over at the TV for a good couple of hours and having fun while watching them go crazy and spending some good quality time with everyone.

What is it that you do when there are events like these ones?

I hope you are having a nice day!

Crepes & Waffles

Hey guys!

Today I am going to grab dinner with my cousins and we are going to crepes and waffles. It is one of our favorite restaurants and they have a lot of different healthy choices. It is a great local restaurant for Latin America and it has franchises over different of the countries.

My favorite dish is the chicken and mushroom crepe which is super tasty and nice! it has a milky type of sauce and it just doesn't have that much calories.

here is a picture taken from Trip Advisor of this dish, it just look AH-MAZING :)

Tell me, what are your plans for this Saturday night?

Have a nice day!

Healthy Snacks: Avocado Humus

Hey Guys!

So I was browsing through the internet in the search of new and healthy snack options and got across this recipe, and as I am a huge lover of avocados and of Humus I thought "OK, why not?" and decided that you might also like this new and innovative way to eat your humus.

Here is the recipe thanks to the food network:

Picture of Avocado Hummus Recipe

Ingredients:

2 avocados
1/2 jalapeño pepper
7 ounce tub of humus
juice of 1 lemon
salt

Directions:

Make an avocado and jalapeño purée in a food processor, then stir with the humus and mix well. Add salt and the lemon juice and mix well once again.

If you can't find made humus near you, click here to get the recipe to make it yourself. (An easy and practical recipe I must say!)

A great veggie that you can eat this with is with celery sticks, they are crunchy and yummy. But you can also eat it with toasted pita bread.

So I hope you enjoy!

Random: POP corn and Soda

Today I will be going to the movies, it is a tradition we have with my parents, we love the movies so much that once every two weeks we will go and watch one of them. What I like the most to ask in the shop is for popcorn and a soda, It is so not healthy, but so yummy, the soda of my preference is Fanta or any other with an orange flavour.

I like the popcorn they cook, they are not so like the ones you make at home, they have other taste, it's just different.

I was bored and I decided to talk to you about this little tradition we have. We normally ask for a medium popcorn for the 3 of us and get individual small or medium sodas :) it is just a small treat we get ourselves.

what kind of traditions you have with the ones you love?
